GE Recalls 240,000 Ovens

General Electric and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of wall ovens on Tuesday.

According to the CPSC's Web site, the products affected are 244,000 GE, GE Profile, Monogram and Kenmore wall ovens.  They were manufactured by GE Consumer & Industrial, of Louisville, Ky.

The CPSC said the hazard is the extreme heat used in the self-clean cycle which can escape if the wall oven door is removed and incorrectly re-attached by the installer or the consumer.  GE is aware of 28 incidents of minor property damage in which adjacent kitchen cabinets have been damaged. No injuries have been reported.
