HIV Case Puts Porn Industry on High Alert

Outbreak could cause skin flick filming to grind to a halt

A San Fernando Valley health clinic that serves the adult film industry says an actress has tested positive for HIV.

The Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation said Wednesday that initial HIV tests of the woman's partners have come up negative, but they are not being allowed to perform and are being encouraged to test again in two weeks.

In 2004, an HIV outbreak shut down porn production for a month, according to the Los Angeles Times. Los Angeles County health officials said Friday there have been 22 confirmed HIV cases involving adult film industry performers since 2004.

County Public Health Director Dr. Jonathan Fielding said his office would launch an investigation into the most recent case.
