Governor Speaks At North County School

Increased Education Budget Touted

POSTED: 8:05 pm PST March 24, 2006

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger visited a San Marcos school Friday, promoting an increased education budget and bonds for school construction.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke at the San Elijo School Friday, outlining a new budget plan for state schools.

Schwarzenegger said the plan could lead to smaller class sizes and improvements to charter schools. Speaking to parents, students and teachers at the San Elijo School, he outlined his plan to limit classroom size to 20.

"My proposal is to build 40,000 new classrooms, to modernize -- which is also very important -- 140,000 classrooms," Schwarzenegger said.

Schwarzenegger's budget proposal is $3.8 billion larger than last year's spending plan. It includes an extra $100 million for improving facilities at charter schools, he said.
