JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. -- A Missouri couple got a rude awakening when they discovered the house they bought two years ago didn't have a sewer hook-up.
Brandon and Kelly Cope, along with their kids, Christian and Devon, moved into the Jefferson County house with high hopes.Unfortunately, after about two months in the home, the dream of home ownership became a nightmare when the basement flooded with sewage. The experts were called in to clean the sewer. They found a mud-filled pipe but never found where the sewer met the main line.Brandon Cope said he has paperwork that shows the house is hooked up to a sewer, but there's no actual physical evidence of that.Another expert was called in to find a septic tank, but that search also came up empty. The Copes called the real estate agent who sold them the house, the home's former owner and the house inspector, but said they did not get the answers they wanted. They said they have since called a lawyer and are suing everyone involved in the sale of the home. But that still does not solve the immediate problem: how to use the shower, the kitchen, the washer and toilets. So they don't. They said they are forced to go to Kelly Cope's mother's house to use her facilities.
