SAN DIEGO -- SDG&E said that without the controversial proposed Sunrise Powerlink Project, it can't meet a 2010 deadline requiring that 20 percent of the power it supplies be created from renewable sources.Aguirre said that goal can be attained, however, and he claims that there are resources already available SDG&E can incorporate into its efforts."What we're suggesting is that with the new state law and with the city of San Diego having a right to enforce its franchise agreement, that SDG&E follow the example of Southern California Edison and spend the money necessary to shift to renewable-energy sources that would come here from San Diego County resources and San Diego County facilities," Aguirre said.
Southern California Edison got 16 percent of its power last year by putting solar panels on the top of warehouse buildings, according to Aguirre.
