Carlsbad Man Accused Of Robbery, Sex Assault In Solana Beach
Police: Espejo-Zamudio Was In Possession Of Stolen Goods

SOLANA BEACH, Calif. -- The San Diego County Sheriff's Department announced Friday that a cleaning woman working at a Solana Beach business was robbed and sexually assaulted at knifepoint by a Carlsbad man Thursday morning.Police said the suspect, identified as Salvador Espejo-Zamudio, demanded cash from the female victim. He took the cash from the victim and then sexually assaulted her, police said.Police said that Espejo-Zamudio then walked away from the area toward a parked vehicle, as the victim fled on foot and called for help from a nearby phone.
Deputies from the Encinitas Patrol Station responded for the initial investigation.Police said that Encinitas patrol deputies located and detained a male matching the description the victim gave them.The female victim positively identified Espejo-Zamudio as the person who had robbed and sexually assaulted her.Police said that Espejo-Zamudio happened to be in possession of stolen property from a commercial burglary that took place on Stevens Avenue that same night. He was booked at the Vista Detention Facility in connection with charges of robbery, commercial burglary and sexual assault related offenses.Investigators from the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit are continuing the investigation and are looking into the possibility Espejo-Zamudio may have committed other offenses in the Solana Beach area.Anyone with information should contact Detective Todd Norton at 858-974-2353.
