SAN DIEGO -- Public schools students will soon learn about birth control and sexually transmitted diseases in health classes. Some school districts use abstinence-only programs in their sex-education classes. But the state Board of Education said students must also learn about contraception at an appropriate age.Planned Parenthood said the move is a positive change that will benefit all students.
Conservative groups said the new standards give students too much information, too early. They urged parents to exercise their option to take their children out of the new classes.
