Oceanside police said a woman and a child were shot by an off-duty San Diego police officer on Saturday night.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of a Lowe's Home Improvement store on Old Grove Road in Oceanside, police said.

Police said the officer pulled his gun out after a possible road-rage incident.

Investigators said they believe another person in the officer's car called 911 to report the initial road-rage incident.

The woman was flown to Sharp Memorial Hospital, and the child was taken to Children's Hospital.

As of Saturday night, their injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening.
