SAN DIEGO -- As the search for a missing clergyman continues, police revealed new details on the case on Thursday.

Charles Lanier, 51, pastor of the Unity Fellowship Church, was reported missing last Friday. His family said he went to the store and never returned home.

On Thursday, his 2007 black four-door Cadillac CTS with chrome rims and California license plate number 5YED361 was found at a parking lot in San Ysidro, according to San Diego police Lt. Manny Guaderrama.

Guaderrama said that an attendant at the lot called to have the car towed. The towing company reported the car to the police.

Also on Thursday, Guaderrama told NBC 7/39 that when Lanier's family members called his cell phone over the weekend, a voice they did not recognize answered the other line.

"His family attempted to call him on Sunday. A Spanish speaker answered the phone and said he was in Tijuana. That person said he purchased the phone at a bar in the U.S. and then traveled to Tijuana," Guaderrama said.

Detectives are trying to confirm whether or not Lanier walked across the border into Mexico. They say he has a friend down there so it would make sense for him to visit.

At this point, detectives said there are no signs of foul play. But according to his family, it's unlike him to just disappear.

"It's very strange. That's why my sister and I flew down immediately. It's not him. He always keeps in contact with his family. We have never gone where you can not reach him -- ever," said his sister Ruby Sibley.

According to police, Lanier had planned a barbecue last Saturday but he never showed up to his own event. He did not show up to church either.

Police said Lanier is 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 215 pounds and has diamond stud earrings in both ears.
