SAN DIEGO -- The city of San Diego said the last two days of rain could cause problems at the site of the La Jolla landslide.Crews worked to keep rainwater from running into the area on Soledad Mountain Road. They used sandbags and water pumps to re-direct the water so it would go around the big hole. Crews also put plastic covers on much of the exposed areas of the landslide.City senior engineering geologist Robert Hawk said the landslide is very vulnerable to water.
"Any additional weight could drive it faster downhill," he said. "And, of course, if we got a lot of water into it, could change it into a debris flow or mudslide and cause greater damage down the slope."Because of the rain, crews are not working to fix the problems caused by the landslide. Work will resume when the site completely dries out.
