Ice Cream Lovers Get Short Scooped

SAN DIEGO -- Ice cream lovers are screaming over something more than their frozen treats. State investigators announced Tuesday that Baskin Robbins and their 31 flavors didn't measure up as promised.

According to investigators, Baskin Robbins was filling their pints to 12 ounces by weight of ice cream, which did not fill the pint.
It's the chain's choice on how to advertise their product, but in this case, investigators said they were advertising for both, but not delivering on the promised pint.The investigation took place in 29 California counties, with a total of 416 pints of ice cream purchased, NBC 7/39 reported. And officials said 83 percent of the time, the ice cream did not measure up.Baskin Robbins said they have agreed to settle the case and the court has ordered the company to pay a total of $491,000 to the state.The chain is no longer offering a pint, but it will continue to sell 12-ounce containers of ice cream.This is the second time the ice cream maker has been in trouble, NBC 7/39 reported. In 1985, a court in San Diego ordered Baskin Robbins to stop calling them pints unless they delivered on their promise.
