Fashion Show Offers Eco-Couture
It's not haute couture, but ec-couture. Several local designers created dresses using items most people throw away to present at the second annual Green Scene Exhibition and Eco-Couture Fashion Show.View Images |
Watch VideoZTA Gallery, an architecture firm in San Diego, designs sustainable architecture. The company created a gallery to show off eco-design. The fashion show celebrates what can be done with recyclable goods, said Dan Manlongat from ZTA.
Designer Kristin Frick created the "bottlecap dress." Frick said she wanted to take things people discard and make something useable. The model told NBC 7/39's Rory Devine she "probably" wouldn't wear the dress out.Designer Eric Au created an organic dress from his neighbors palm froms. Au used bamboo and muslin across the middle of the dress. The model wearing this creation said she would wear the dress.Designer Juan Carlos Olivas created a babydoll dress using a black garbage bag for the skirt and a white plastic bag for the halter top. Both Devine and the model thought this dress could be worn to any function.You can see these and other designs at the 2nd Annual Green Scene Exhibition and Eco-Couture Fashion Show on September 8 at the ZTA Gallery 3956 30th Street.
