Sweet Eats Opening at Old Police Headquarters

The historical building will reopen in Fall 2013 as a shopping, retail and dining destination

Downtown San Diego is about to have a lot more dining options in the coming months.

Construction is underway at the Old Police Headquarters, where restaurants Puesto, Eddie V’s, Pizzeria Mozza, Season’s 52 and The Cheesecake Factory will open later this year at 789 West Harbor Dr.

Puesto, Eddie V’s and Season’s 52 already have successful locations in La Jolla, and The Cheesecake Factory has a few restaurants sprinkled throughout the county. But the Seaport Village spot will be a first in San Diego for Pizzeria Mozza.

Restaurants aren’t all that will go into the space. The $40 million redesign will provide 100,000 sq. ft. of retail space, in addition to indoor and outdoor dining.

The old SDPD headquarters, adjacent to Seaport Village, is likely to see a lot of visitors thanks to its proximity to the convention center and other tourist hot spots.

Jennifer Gordon with Terramar Retail Center, the company developing the building, said they’re working hard to get the space open by this fall.

“We have the most unique collection of restaurants,” she said. “Residents of San Diego and visitors will be coming here as their destination to dine.”

She said the owners are thrilled to open on the renowned property and are adhering to building codes so that it maintains its historical designation.

“We’re keeping the integrity and the history of the building and having the restaurants redesign their space to coincide with the historic elements that are here,” said Gordon.
