Comic-Con Gets Ready to Party

Who said geeks can’t have fun?

You may start seeing superheroes partying in San Diego soon.

Starting July 17, thousands of people will descend upon downtown for Comic-Con, but the convention center isn’t the only place to see action.

Plenty of parties and special events will be hosted by local businesses throughout the geek-tastic event. See which places will have caped visitors downing drinks and dancing all night long:

Wednesday, July 17

Stone Brewing World Gardens
9 p.m. at 2816 Historic Decatur Rd.
Now this is something new: Hop-Con. San Diego’s biggest brewery is having a craft beer festival that’s not nerdy, it’s hoppy. Tickets are $50 and include eight tastings, a commemorative glass and snacks.

Thursday, July 18

Petco Park
7-11 p.m. at 100 Park Blvd.
MTV 2 is hosting the ultimate Comic-Con party that shouldn’t be missed. This rager is the first of its kind that will celebrate the fans with live music and celebrity guest appearances.

Stars of Syfy's "Haven" will be at this party hosted by Entertainment One.

SuperMEMES
8 p.m. to midnight at 350 10th Ave.
This swanky soiree hosted by Mashable and Digitaria has plenty of A-listers in attendance.

El Dorado
9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at 1030 Broadway

This “official non-official” Comic-Con party is bound to take you to the dark side, with performances by The Howls and Black Lodge. Cover is $5.

Friday, July 19

Hotel Indigo
4-7 p.m. at 509 Ninth Ave.
Bring your pup to this Yappy Hour, where fans will have their dogs dressed up as Star Wars characters.

Spike Africa’s
7:30-9 p.m. at 411 Broadway
Get your costumes ready, because the best outfit will win a cash prize at this new restaurant’s contest. The first place winner will go home with $150, so make sure to pull out all the stops.

The Keating Hotel
7-10 p.m. at 432 F St.
Check out what Radical Studios has been up to at their swanky shindig showcasing the company’s last projects, including the film “Oblivion.” It’s invite only, get on the guest list by emailing rsvp@ploom.com.

The Walking Dead
9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Island and Seventh Avenues
Weezer will rock this private event in the Gaslamp District presented by Hyundai. Expect to see celebrities from the hit show making a red carpet appearance!

Saturday, July 20

Heroes Brewfest
1-5 p.m. at Embarcadero Park North

Caped crusaders and craft beer are paired together perfectly at this bayside event benefiting San Diego Coastkeeper. Tickets are $40.

Comedy Central Comedy-Con
1- 4 p.m. at Float Hard Rock
"Workaholics" stars will hang out with fans at this first come, first served party at one of the city's coolest clubs.

FLUXX
9 p.m. at 500 4th Ave.
One of San Diego’s most prestigious clubs has been transformed into an arcade just in time for Comic-Con. Word has it a guest appearance by Donkey Kong will be made that Saturday night.

LOUNGEsix
7 p.m. at 616 J St.
Calling all oddballs – The Odd Ball party is perfect for those who want to avoid long lines. There’s no cover and drink specials will be flowing all night.

BASIC
8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 410 10th Ave.
Watch live painting in action at the 6th annual art battle royale presented by Munky King. Best part? There’s no cover.
