Health and Wellness Events in North San Diego

Whether it's yoga, curling or deep meditation, get those fitness and health goals off to a good start this month

Like clockwork, the New Year comes with new resolutions. Perhaps you’re trying to slim down, shape up, reduce the stress in your life or just try something new. Whatever your goal might be, San Diego’s North County is the place to work on those resolutions. Thanks to Yelp, here’s a list of rejuvenating, upcoming local events designed to promote wellness and health.

Encinitas 4th Annual Wellness Week (Jan. 25 – Feb. 1)
On Jan. 25, Encinitas will host its 4th Annual Wellness Week festival at the Encinitas Library. Health-related businesses will set up booths featuring giveaways and contests, and host demonstrations and lectures. All week long, there will be discussions and activities focused on health and well-being for all ages.

Yelp’s 10-Day Stretch (Jan. 20 – Jan. 29)
Looking for the best way to get in shape this year? Yelp knows just the place: We’ve partnered with some of the highly-rated Yoga, Pilates and Barre studios in North San Diego for a fitness focused event series called “Yelp's 10-day Stretch.” Spaces are filling up quickly but you can sign up to attend special Yelp classes for free – classes full of fun, snacks, special swag and community love, too.

Guided Seated Meditation & Yoga-Nidra (Jan. 24, 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.)

Don’t wanna sweat it out? Looking for a healthy way to deal with the stress of life? Well, on Jan. 24, Carlsbad Village Yoga and Fitness is featuring a Yoga-Nidra class – or Yoga-Sleep, as it’s also called – for just $10. Yoga-Nidra is a guided meditation resulting in a sleep-like state. But it’s far more than a power nap. Those who teach and practice this meditation exercise say benefits include reduced anxiety, tension and headaches while promoting relaxation. It may not be dumbbells but it may lift the weight on your mind!

Learn To Curl with Curl San Diego (Jan. 25, 8:30 p.m.)
There is nothing like a 42-pound piece of granite, a sheet of ice and some brooms. Don’t believe us? Well, refer to the Winter Olympics or the peeps over at Curl San Diego. There, instructors are teaching the basics of the sport for only $25 at the Iceoplex in Escondido next weekend. All you need is warm clothes, soft shoes and enthusiasm! All ages are welcome and after your training session, you’ll play a beginners game.

Waterfall Meditation Journey (Jan. 25, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.)

Maybe you get your fitness fix by communing with nature? If that’s the case, center yourself by getting some of that priceless San Diego sunshine. The Razee Empowerment Center hosts this deep-guided mediation journey to a waterfall and back with a focus on health abundance. Participants will be taken through a series of meditation and physical activity with a break for socializing and snacks.
