Tips for Del Mar Mud Run First Timers

Racers can expect more mud and improved obstacles as the popular event brought by the VAVi Sport & Social Club returns to Del Mar for its fourth year

The Del Mar Mud Run touts the best shower experience a mud run has ever seen and participants for the upcoming event are going to need it!

Racers can expect more mud and improved obstacles as the popular event organized by the VAVi Sport & Social Club returns to Del Mar for its fourth year.

And while they’re excited to bring back obstacles like the large mud slide and mud pits, organizers said it was pretty obvious after last year’s race what they needed to focus on for 2013.

“After extensive research, we’ve seen that great showers are the thing people want most at an event like this. Just as we always do, we’re giving the people what they want,” said Keith Cunningham, Director of VAVi & Del Mar Mud Run.

If you’re considering diving in for some of the fun this year, here are some tips from a few Del Mar Mud Run veterans for those first timers:

  • Don’t carry your phone
  • Choose shorts over long pants
  • Pack towels and garbage bag for post-race cleanup
  • Wear your hair back
  • Get there early

And don’t forget to join in with thousands of your fellow muddy racers in the post-event party for one free beer (racers only, please) music, food and other fun stuff.

The fun begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 5 at the Del Mar Race Track and Fairgrounds. For registration information, go to the VAVi website.

The event benefits the Challenged Athletes Foundation's® (CAF) Operation Rebound® program.
