Summer we hardly knew ye, but fall is in the wings and we are ready! Is it hot enough for you? Well, it's gonna get hotter -- just look at this stellar list of talent coming to San Diego and these picks are only a drop in the bucket. Please go see you favorite band on tour or go support a local band from right here in town, they would love you for it. As some of you know, I book local bands at the Casbah, and if you didn't know, now you do. I love all of our music venues from the small and intimate to the grand hall though, so go see a show!
Sept. 1: Todd Rundgren and Gary Wilson at Music Box. Todd is a legend on his own, but also for the bands he has worked with since the '70s.
Sept. 2: Frankie Cosmos at the Irenic. Frankie is a woman named Greta who came up through the anti-folk Scene of New York.
Sept. 3: Grieves at the Casbah. Indie hip-hop from Seattle.
Sept. 4: Labor Day -- enjoy your day off!
Sept. 5: Minus the Bear and Deap Vally at the Observatory North Park. Post-rock headliners and rock & roll openers.
Sept. 6: Stiff Little Fingers and Death By Unga Bunga at the Belly Up. Legendary punk band with the kings of garage rock all the way from Norway.

Sept. 7: Lita Ford at Sycuan Live and Upclose. She was a Runaway!
Sept. 8: Marshall Crenshaw and Los Straitjackets at the Casbah. A great American songwriter with Lucha Libre-masked instrumentalists Los Straitjackets opening and backing him up!
Sept. 9: Big Bloom, the Loons, Dark Thirty and Gloomsday at Casbah. Disclaimer: I booked this stellar lineup of local bands...
Sept. 10: The Slants at Soda Bar. Asian-American dance band that went to court to use the derogatory term "Slants" as their band name; it's freakin' genius!
Sept. 11: Quicksand at the Belly Up. Post-hardcore band that set the bar and is back with a new record in November, called "Interiors."
Sept. 12: The Night Game at the Casbah featuring Martin Johnson, formerly of Boys Like Girls.
Sept. 13: Manchester Orchestra at the Observatory North Park. The band just released a new album "A Black Mile to the Surface."
Sept. 14: Greensky Bluegrass at Observatory North Park -- bluegrass from Michigan in your backyard.
Sept. 15: Hanni El Khatib at Casbah. The dude rocks! You've heard his music in TV commercials, now witness it in person, so good!
Sept. 16: Against Me! at Observatory North Park. Such a great band, who I have followed throughout their career and Laura Jane Grace is one of the bravest people I have ever interviewed.
Sept. 17: Explosions In the Sky and Future Islands at Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre. I find this bill very interesting and diverse. Post-rock instrumentals matched with an epic alt-rock/electro band: It's a match made in heaven.
Sept. 18: Elise Trouw, Aviator Stash and special guests at Casbah. Elise Trouw is only 18 years old and has already been featured in Modern Drummer magazine -- she also plays every instrument on her new debut record. Aviator Stash was 91x's Local Break for August, and oh, I booked this show, thank you, come again.
Sept. 19: This Will Destroy You at the Casbah. Experimental-rock band from Texas.
Sept. 20: Twin Ritual, Subtropics and the Bad Vibes at Casbah. This show is presented by 91x Loudspeaker and Thorn St. Brewing.
Sept. 21: INVSN at Soda Bar. Frontman Denis Lyxzen is from Refused and International Noise Conspiracy; come check out his latest project.
Sept. 22: Swervedriver at the Casbah. One of the finest from the shoegaze genre.
Sept. 23: The xx at the Observatory North Park. Moody and souful indie rock from the UK.
Sept. 24: Dan Croll at the Irenic. UK alternative indie rocker.
Sept. 25: Juiceboxxx at Soda Bar. Party rock! Get down with it!
Sept. 26: Public Service Broadcasting at Soda Bar. Amazing UK act that has to be seen to fully understand.
Sept. 27: The Accidentals at Soda Bar -- eclectic, indie and funny.
Sept. 28: The Pains Of Being Pure at Heart at UCSD's the Loft. Indie noise-pop from NYC.
Sept. 29: Black Kids at the Casbah. A band from Florida that takes the best from '60s to '80s pop and makes it their own.
Sept. 30: Jay Som at Soda Bar. Jay Som is actually Melina Duterte and she creates excellent bedroom-pop.
Thanks for reading! I know you have a lot of choices, I am just here to select some of the best. My best may not be your best, but that is what makes you great and unique. The city is growing faster than the amount of people that go out and support "live" music regularly. If you do go out, take a friend, show 'em the ropes because we need more fans!
