The new Aztec Student Union was unveiled at San Diego State University Wednesday.

Described as a hub for studying, socializing, relaxing and learning for students, faculty, staff and alumni, the building was built with no state funding making it a first for the campus.

The 206,000 square foot building comes equipped with an interactive mapping system to help students navigate the space.

There’s a new courtyard, as well as game rooms and a 300-seat theater. Montezuma Lounge allows students a place to study while Montezuma Hall offers space for large events.

A new student union has opened at San Diego State University. The building houses a 300-seat theater, pool tables and more top-of-line amenities for students.

Restaurants will include Starbucks, The Habit, Oggi’s Pizza and Chipotle.

Aztec Lanes, an in-house bowling alley, seems to be what most students are most excited about.

"There's something in the air, something in the water, you could say because everything's changing, and the caliber of our academics, our sports teams, our student life, our student life, our leadership starts here campaign -- everything is just coming together so nicely and I think the Aztec Student Union complements that," said Javier Gomez, Student VP of External Relations.

“This should’ve been here a long time ago when I was a freshman,” said senior Ryan Zomorodi.

“I’m in PISA, we can perform here and stuff. It’s amazing,” said fourth-year student Sosefina Pahulu.

“It’s smells brand new, I like it,” said Dakandrya Peters. “There’s more space for the students and it won’t be as crowded.”

Students voted to raise fees twice in the last 10 years to help pay for the $104 million union.
