Pyles' November Show Feast

According to 91x's Tim Pyles, there's plenty to be thankful for this month when it comes to shows

Shows, shows and more shows: I love shows and when I miss one, it takes me a few days to recover. When I create these calendars, I plan on seeing as many of them as I can so let's see how I do. Loads of good choices this November -- just take a gander.

Nov. 1: The Drums at the Observatory North Park. Great New York City-based indie-pop band.

Nov. 2: A Giant Dog, the Kabbs and Hurricane Kate at Soda Bar. Punk, glam and rock & roll from Austin, Texas.

Nov. 3: The Black Heart Procession, Sam Coomes at the Casbah. Legendary San Diego band reunites for some shows.

Nov. 4: Live Wire's 25th Anniversary show with Rocket From the Crypt, Mariachi El Bronx and the Meices at the Observatory North Park. Congrats Live Wire -- the first "real" beer bar in San Diego and a place for local musicians.

Nov. 5: Cults, the Willowz and Curls at the Irenic. We like to think Cults is part of our local music scene, even though they are based in NYC, they have roots in SD (read the SoundDiego interview with the band here).

Nov. 6: Boychick, Slowkiss and AJ Froman at the Casbah. Disclaimer: I booked this show at the Casbah; two locals and Slowkiss from Chile.

Nov. 7: Yelle at the Casbah. Cool pop sounds from France.

Nov. 8: Foxtrax and the Brevet at the Casbah. Two great bands for the price of one.

Nov. 9: Hamilton Leithauser at the Belly Up. You may know him as the voice of the Walkmen.

Nov. 10: The Front Bottoms, Basement and Bad Bad Hats at House of Blues. The Front Bottoms are like a modern-day Violent Femmes.

Nov. 11: The Blasters at the Casbah. A true rock & roll band from Downey, California.

Nov. 12: Battalion of Saints at Soda Bar. Punk-rock legends from our very own backyard.

Nov. 13: Death From Above and the Beaches at House of Blues. They dropped the "1979," but it's still the same band.

Nov. 14: The Sounds, Ggoolldd and Fitness at the Observatory North Park. Dave Grohl turned me onto the Sounds; I remember he wore one of their T-shirts in a Foo Fighters video.

Nov. 15: Gary Numan at the Observatory North Park. "Here in my car" and no more needs to be said.

Nov. 16: Ariel Pink and Gary Wilson at the Belly Up. Ariel Pink is influenced by Gary Wilson and vice versa.

Nov. 17: Diarrhea Planet at Soda Bar. Don't let the name scare you -- they're good, but must be seen.

Nov. 18: Hibou and Sloucher at Soda Bar. A night of '80s-inspired pop.

Nov. 19: Black Pistol Fire at the Casbah. They are a rock duo from Austin and they are loud.

Nov. 20: Mogwai at the Observatory North Park. Epic Scottish post-rock band.

Nov. 21: Gwar, Ghoul, US Bastard and He Is Legend at the House of Blues. Don't wear clothes you like to this show.

Nov. 22: The APX at Soda Bar. Atlanta-based husband-and-wife duo playing nu disco and electro funk.

Nov. 23: Happy Thanksgiving! What are you thankful for?

Nov. 24: Barb Wire Dolls, Svetlanas and 57 at Space. Tonight will rock, like really rock.

Nov. 25: New Found Glory at the House of Blues. All the kids will be home for Thanksgiving and want to reminisce about the good ol' days.

Nov. 26: Ninet Tayeb at Soda Bar. Israeli musician, singer-songwriter, composer, DJ, model and actress -- the full package.

Nov. 27: Dhani Harrison at the Belly Up. The son of George Harrison.

Nov. 28: Guns 'N' Roses at the Valley View Casino Center. Hell freezes over again in San Diego.

Nov. 29: The Pack AD at the Casbah. Canadian garage-rock duo.

Nov. 30: True Widow at Soda Bar. Austin-based psych-rock band.

What did I tell you? I'm sure a few of them tantalized you, so pick a couple and bring a friend, make a night of it, share some memories. I love everything about live music, so if you see me at a show, come up and say hello, let's talk music...I don't bite and I love hugs!
