The first Philz Coffee location will open in Encinitas in San Diego's North County, at 1060 S. Coast Highway 101.

Encinitas will be home to the first San Diego County location of San Francisco-based Philz Coffee, along with the first local store of the expanding Lazy Acres Market grocery chain, according to brokerage firm Retail Insite.

According to the grocer’s website, a fall 2016 debut is slated for a Lazy Acres at 150 Encinitas Blvd. The retailer also has a previously reported mid-2017 debut planned for a store in San Diego’s Mission Hills neighborhood.

Lazy Acres is a natural and organic food store operated by the parent company of Bristol Farms, Philadelphia-based Good Food Holdings LLC. Retail Insite founding partner Don Moser said the Encinitas store will operate in a space formerly occupied by Smart & Final and Petco, in a retail center currently undergoing a complete renovation near Interstate 5.

The grocer was represented by Don Moser and Cypress Retail Group’s Scott Manclark. The landlord, Mabee Family Trust of Del Mar, was represented by Bryan Cunningham of Flocke & Avoyer Commercial Real Estate.

Retail Insite broker Matt Moser said Philz Coffee is slated to occupy space at 1060 South Coast Highway 101, after signing a 10-year lease for the 2,500-square-foot building. The building is owned by Tom and Karen Henderson of Encinitas and formerly housed the Black Sheep crafts store.

Philz Coffee and the building’s owners were represented by Retail Insite’s Matt Moser and Chris Hodgman.

Brokers said Philz Coffee, founded 25 years ago by Phil Jaber, is currently in the process of expanding into markets including San Diego and Orange counties. The company has current locations in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
