National City Gets Its First-Ever Ice Skating Rink

The ice skating rink will open for two days only at 901 National City Blvd. in National City -- the community's first-ever ice rink

For the first time ever, the National City community will have its very own ice skating rink this holiday season – free and open to the public for two days this week.

The 40-foot by 26-foot ice skating rink – made possible by the National City Tourism Marketing District (NCTMD) and National City Chamber of Commerce – will open at Morgan Square at 901 National City Blvd., on Thursday and Friday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. both nights.

Admission to the rink is free, including skate rental and skating time. Organizers say the rink will be decked out in holiday lights and decorations, and the community ice skating sessions will include music, tasty treats and hot and cold beverages for winter revelers.

This marks the first time the community has had an ice skating rink.

Jacqueline Reynoso, CEO of the National City Chamber of Commerce, says the recreational experience may just become a holiday tradition.

“We are proud to start this tradition as part of a year-round offering of a variety of entertainment for National City,” she added.

Besides this new ice skating rink, National City will also host its 8th Annual Christmas on Brick Row Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. -- a free, family-friend holiday gathering set to take place between 9th Street and A Avenue.

There, visitors can enjoy a children’s craft area, face painting, live music and dance performances, free museum tours and lots of food vendors. The National City Chamber of Commerce will also open its doors to showcase an annual art exhibit in the Chamber’s conference room featuring a collection of work from independent community artists. Visitors will have a chance to meet Chicano Park muralists Mario Torero and Armando Nunez, too.
