By the end of this calendar year, Forbes reports that “nearly 1.2 million people worldwide will have worked in a co-working space.” Millennials are increasingly attracted to the non-traditional career path offered by the rise of the gig economy. While some fear these trends will lead to the decline of the traditional office sector. Irvine Company leaned into the future and established The Vine in 2012, with locations in Downtown San Diego and University Research Park, Irvine’s emerging technology hub and is welcoming their newest location in La Jolla UTC this fall.

In San Diego, The Vine transformed downtown into a dynamic community with a mix of new founders, high-growth seed stage companies, and a star-studded list of the city’s tech darlings including Portfolium and LoanHero, among others.

Portfolium’s founder, Adam Markowitz, credits his company’s start at The Vine with the success that led the team to establish permanent roots at Symphony Towers. “It’s been fantastic, “ said Markowitz in an interview with The Vine’s on-site community manager. “Being at EvoNexus, we learned about Irvine Company and the difference between other landlords. We knew we wanted to stay within the Irvine Company family here in San Diego. Moving from The Vine San Diego to a ReadyNow Office is helping to elevate our business, and we’re pleased that we’ll be able to continue to expand within the Irvine Company portfolio as we grow our team.”

As a partner in growth from day one, EvoNexus is a key component of what makes The Vine unique. It’s always been about more than workspace. Considered Southern California’s leading technology incubator, EvoNexus infuses real resources into the teams that make it through a rigorous and highly selective application process. The result is more than worth it, as the startups receive workspace at The Vine, mentorship from prominent CEOs and investors, and the ever allusive access to capital that is the very lifeblood of innovation. With $1.22 Billion in funding and outcomes invested in its graduates to date, The Vine's continued partnership with EvoNexus positions La Jolla UTC's first ever startup-focused workplace community for unprecedented levels of success.

To John Turner, Regional Vice President leading Irvine Company’s San Diego portfolio, the company’s role in supporting innovation is a natural fit. “The roots of our company are in community-building on the residential side,” Turner said in an interview with XConomy. “Can we create the same sense of community in our office complexes?” While perhaps not the same, The Vine La Jolla’s Grand Opening is the best kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. In realizing the promise in its tagline “Where Business Gets Growing™", The Vine itself is doing the same.
