High-End Japanese Restaurant In the Works for Little Italy
Cloak + Petal is a spacious and stylish new Japanese restaurant and bar being planned for India Street. Due by the end of the year, it will be modeled after social dining and drinking spaces in Japan called “izakaya.” The spot will feature a traditional sushi bar, in addition to authentic small plates and a bar program showcasing Japanese whiskey and sake. 

Mike Hess Brewing & City Tacos Partner Up in Imperial Beach
Beer AND tacos? Where do we sign up? North Park's Mike Hess Brewing and City Tacos are collaborating on a beer tasting room, taco shop and beer garden that will be located just steps from the Imperial Beach Pier. Scheduled to open in early 2018, it’ll boast a large patio; the dining area and beer bar will be crafted from shipping containers. The eatery will serve a menu of favorites from City Tacos.

Modern Times Beer Becoming CA's First Employee-Owned Brewery
As Point Loma's Modern Times Beer continues its expansion with two new projects in the Los Angeles area, the brewery announced it is transitioning to an employee-ownership structure, making it the first brewery in the state to adopt this model. This is part of the brewery's goal to remain independent and sustainable as it continues to grow. 

Carlsbad's New Multi-Level Park 101 Has Beer, Barbecue and More
New to downtown Carlsbad is Park 101: an 8,000-square-foot mostly outdoor drinking and dining hub that houses several eateries. There's Park Smoked Meats, which specializes in barbecue, plus a café serving grab-and-go food and sweets ranging from housemade doughnuts to ice cream sandwiches. The Garden Pub features over 30 beers on tap and draft wine, while the upstairs Tamarack Deck boasts great views, fire pits and a bar and snack menu.
