San Diego Chefs Unite for Charity Bake Sale

The event will benefit the No Kid Hungry campaign and its mission to connect children in need with nutritious food

Some of San Diego’s most renowned chefs will unite this Sunday for a sweet cause: to whip up baked goods as part of a fundraiser to end childhood hunger.

From 10 a.m. to noon, local food writer Erin Jackson and her organization, Bake Me Some Love, will host a high-end bake sale at Hotel Solamar’s rooftop LOUNGESix located at 616 J St. in downtown San Diego.

The inaugural “Chef-Driven Bake Sale” will boast sweet and savory goodies created by top-notch San Diego chefs and will serve to support the “No Kid Hungry” campaign spearheaded by the non-profit organization, Share Our Strength. The national campaign aims to end childhood hunger and connects kids in need with nutritious food.

Organizers of Sunday’s Chef-Driven Bake Sale say 100 percent of the proceeds from the event will go to No Kid Hungry. Every dollar raised can help connect a child with up to 10 healthy meals.

Admission to the event is $5 per person. There, attendees can buy a variety of baked goods -- from cookies to cupcakes -- created by top chefs, for $5 a pop.

Organizers say they've compiled a sweet "baker's dozen" of San Diego-based chefs to participate in the event. The lineup includes:

    • Donna Antaloczy – Ironside Fish & Oyster
    • Tae Dickey – BIGA
    • Rygie Dy – Bottega Americano
    • Kayli Faucher – The Crack Shack
    • Matt Gordon – Urban Solace
    • Christian Graves – Jsix
    • Rocio Siso‐Gurriaran – Nine‐Ten
    • Vivian Hernandez‐Jackson – Azucar
    • Rachel King – Indie
    • Francis Laureano – Crafted Baked Goods
    • Donald Lockhart – Cusp
    • Jojo Rossi – Whisknladle Hospitality
    • Jessica Scott – Puesto

Hotel Solamar donated the use of its rooftop, poolside lounge for the event. Attendees will also be treated to free coffee, cocktail specials at the bar and live music.
