Carnitas' Snack Shack Opens Food Truck on Embarcadero

Those in downtown San Diego will soon get a slice of a North Park staple all about pork.

Carnitas’ Snack Shack will park a new food truck along the North Embarcadero starting Aug. 24.

The mobile kitchen will be parked in front of the Port of San Diego’s B Street Cruise Ship Terminal, near the future site of Carnitas’ new walk-up café, currently under construction at 1004 North Harbor Drive.

So until the café opens in January 2016, the food truck will keep people along the bayfront supplied with carnitas tacos, pork and steak sandwiches, chicharrons and Snack Shack Cubans.

It will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, though the hours may change depending on the seasons and weather, according to the Port of San Diego.

The board of port commissioners approved the new Carnitas’ location in May after a competitive bid process. The restaurant will include an outdoor seating area, as well as a craft beer garden portion. The food truck, however, will not be able to serve alcohol.

The new endeavor will join Carnitas’ Snack Shack’s established locations in North Park and Carmel Valley/Del Mar.

The Port has spent $31.1 million in recent improvements to spruce up the North Embarcadero area and attract more visitors, officials say.
