New Lights Debut in Carlsbad Village

‘Tis the season of lights, and the City of Carlsbad will shine Thursday as it debuts newly-installed lighting along Carlsbad Village.

City leaders will host an official lighting ceremony at the corner of State Street and Grand Avenue at 5 p.m. to celebrate the new decorative lights, which are carefully strung on trees along the Village streets.

The new twinkles – a project spearheaded by the city and Carlsbad Village Association – are part of the city’s efforts to revitalize the Village and make it more appealing to residents and visitors alike.

These bright additions shine upward into the overhead canopies of leaves and boughs along Grand Avenue, between State Street and Roosevelt Avenue.

The city says the LED lights are energy efficient and can change color.

During the holidays, they’re programmed for a light show at the top of the hour every evening. The light shows begin at 5 p.m. and end at 11 p.m. The lights are then shut off for the night, the city says.

The first lights in Carlsbad Village went up in trees along State Street in 2012. Each year, the city has expanded the lighting program to include more strings along the area.
