Local Chefs Battle at San Diego Sausage Fest

Carnivores, prep that palate: The San Diego Sausage Fest is set for Wednesday, where local chefs will battle it out for a chance to be crowned the ultimate meat master.

Sausage Fest 2014 starts at 5:30 p.m. at LOUNGEsix on the fourth floor of Hotel Solamar on J Street in downtown San Diego.

Each year, local chefs compete in the sausage cook-off, showcasing their favorite recipes, from chorizo to bratwurst. Attendees vote on the best brat and whoever smokes the competition wins major bragging rights.

This year, sausage fanatics will sample sausages from 10 chefs from different restaurants. The link lineup includes: Jsix; Carnitas’ Snack Shack; Salt & Cleaver; Tiger! Tiger!; Coronado Brewing Company; Mastiff Sausage Company; Nine-Ten; Whisknladle; and Leroy’s Kitchen & Lounge.

By the way, last year’s “Sausage King” was chef Andrew Bent of Tender Greens.

Attendees can purchase tickets that range from $10 to $30, depending on what they want to eat and drink. A $10 ticket includes a sampling of all the sausage entries, a $20 ticket adds a 1-liter stein full of Lost Abbey beer to the package and a $30 ticket includes all sausage tastings, the beer and a take-home stein. Tickets can be purchased here.

The sausage shindig will also boast live music. Beer, meat, tunes. Sounds like a party!
