Dîner en Blanc Coming to San Diego

The all-white picnic imported from Paris will pop up at a top secret location in San Diego next month

A très chic, all-white, annual picnic party is headed to San Diego next month, but the location of the event is really anyone’s guess.

More than 1,800 locals are expected to show up for the 3rd annual Dîner en Blanc on Sept. 19, decked out in their very best all-white ensembles. The location for the soirée, however, will not be revealed to revelers until the very last minute.

NBC 7’s weekend morning anchors Megan Tevrizian and Greg Bledsoe speak with Frank Christian and Darren Halm about Diner En Blanc, a top secret, tres chic party coming soon to San Diego.

Like the European Dîner en Blanc events, groups of 100 to 300 attendees will gather at different specific rallying points across the city. The groups will then converge on the top secret location – which is a public site where diners can see and be seen.

The event will include live music, dancing and, of course, all-white décor. Guests are asked to dress elegantly in all white and bring their own feasts, wine and champagne, tables, white chairs, fine china dinnerware, silverware and a white tablecloth.

Once the event is over, guests pack up their things and head into the night, leaving no sign of the posh, pop-up party.

A Parisian tradition came to San Diego and it was all one big surprise. NBC 7’s Danya Bacchus reports.

Registration opens to the general public on Aug. 25 and runs through Sept. 11. Tickets cost $28 per person or $56 per pair and can be purchased on the event website.

By the way, last year’s picnic brought more than 1,600 guests to the NTC North Promenade at Liberty Station for a night of food, fun and white-hot fashion.
Worldwide, the event attracts more than 10,000 people each year across different cities.
