”Survivor's” Ethan Zohn: “My Cancer Is Back”

Survivior star vows to keep fighting

After months of treatment following a diagnosis of a rare form of Hodgkin's disease in April, "Survivor's" Ethan Zohn is battling cancer yet again.

"I was off chemo. I was running up to seven miles," the reality star told People. "I was happy, I was going out. I went up to Boston to see the family and was feeling great."

But then on August 26, Zohn's doctor called with his test results following his months of intense chemotherapy.

"My cancer is back," the 35-year-old told the mag. "I have never been so scared in my life, for my life. It was a complete punch in the face."

Despite the return of the cancer, the "Survivor: Africa" winner did receive a small ray of light from his doctor.

"The original mass is pretty well contained," Zohn said. "There was re-growth. Two little nodules in a different location… It's quite rare that not only is there re-growth, but that there's re-growth so quickly. I was obviously resistant to the first form of chemotherapy."

But Zohn has not given up his fight. He will undergo another round of treatment of chemotherapy drugs referred to as ICE.

"In stage two I will get blasted twice a day for 14 days with a high dose of radiation," Zohn reportedly told friends in an e-mail last week. "In the final and most difficult stage, I will be admitted to the hospital for 30 days (yes a whole f'ing month), to get my final chemotherapy session to start my stem cell transplant."

And despite his upcoming battle, Zohn continues to remain positive. "Whatever things are thrown at you, you've got to battle through with a smile on your face," he told the mag, "And the important people in your life around you."

The reality star was recently nominated as a finalist for GQ's 2009 Better Men Better World Search. The magazine honors one individual who is "an agent of change striving for the betterment of society through charitable work, volunteerism, and/or community involvement—someone who is working hard to make this a better world."
