Savannah Guthrie Named “Today” Co-Anchor

"She's got an undeniable range, and she’s earned the trust of the news community, her colleagues and our viewers alike," says NBC News president

Savannah Guthrie has been named co-anchor of NBC’s “Today” show.

NBC announced that the assignment is effectively immediately and Guthrie will make her official debut in her new role on Monday. She’ll be teamed up with Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Natalie Morales.

Guthrie has been with the morning news show since June 2001 as chief legal correspondent and co-host of "Today's" third hour.

“In just a few short years Savannah, has become a standout member of the news division as well as the ultimate team player,” NBC News president Steve Capus said in a statement. “She’s anchored for Brian on “NBC Nightly News,” moderated for David on “Meet the Press,” co-hosted the 9 a.m. hour of “Today,” reported for “Rock Center” and “Dateline,” and provided legal insights in our Supreme Court Special Reports – and that was all within the last week! She's got an undeniable range, and she’s earned the trust of the news community, her colleagues and our viewers alike. I couldn’t be happier for Savannah and the entire ‘Today’ team.”

Guthrie holds a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and was a legal affairs and national trial correspondent for “Court TV” before joining NBC News in September 2007.

She will retain her title as chief legal correspondent for NBC News.

Guthrie takes over as “Today” co-anchor from Ann Curry, who signed off in an emotional goodbye on Thursday. Curry remains a "Today" anchor-at-large and a national and international correspondent for NBC News.
