All of young Hollywood turned out for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, but Batman was the star of the show.

Director Christopher Nolan and stars Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt shared an exclusive clip of “The Dark Knight Rises” for MTV audiences. It was a reminder that this summer the Batman trilogy comes to an end after almost nine years in the making.

“I think Bruce Wayne’s story is one of the great stories,” said Nolan as he presented the clip.

The never-before-seen footage wasn’t the only highlight of the evening. Johnny Depp, honored with the Generation Award, rocked the stage alongside progressive rockers The Black Keys.

Legendary musicians Joe Perry and Steven Tyler, of Aerosmith, presented Depp with the award, calling him “a rock star in the world of movies.” Depp passed the praise onto The Black Keys, calling the band “up-and-coming legends.”

For the first time in Movie Awards history, the show honored a scene-stealing newbie. Emma Stone was the first recipient of the MTV Trailblazer Award. Stone delivered a heart-felt acceptance speech, citing some of her own trailblazing comedic predecessors, including Gilda Ratner, Charlie Chaplin, and John Candy.

“They help me to be more myself, because they are originals,” Stone said of the iconic comedians.

Politics came into play during commercial breaks. Sarah Jessica Parker reminded audiences of Obama’s accomplishments throughout his presidency. She then invited viewers to enter to win a chance to dine with the Obamas at her New York City home on June 14. Those who donate to his campaign will automatically be entered into a drawing to attend the event.

Although MTV's big night is known for its Best Kiss award, this year’s show lacked lip-locking. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson won the award, but Stewart accepted the Golden Popcorn solo.

Host and comedian Russell Brand opened the show by calling on Charlie Sheen to “release the tiger blood hero.” Sheen kept a low-profile at the event. No tiger blood was shed, but presenters Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender battled on stage before presenting the award for Best Fight. Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson won for their lead performances in “The Hunger Games.”

The big award of the evening, Movie of the Year, went to “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part I.” The film’s stars Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart, and Nikki Reed accepted the award. “As always, I’m just going to say thank you so much,” said Stewart.
