Parents Television Council Takes Aim at “Bitches”

New ABC pilot incites the wrath of the PTC with racy title

In a report that will shock no one who has lived in this country for more that a half hour, the Parents Television Council is taking issue with the proposed title of an ABC pilot called "Good Christian Bitches."

We say "proposed" because "Good Christian Bitches" is, at this point, just a working title (taken from the source material of the same name, a novel written by author Kim Gatlin).

The show stars Leslie Bibb ("Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby") as a former high school bad girl who is now a divorced mother of two trying to mend her ways.

PTC president Tim Winter is not content to wait and see what the final title will be and has instead decided to launch an attack at a work in progress. On behalf of his organization, Winter issued a statement chastising ABC and its parent company, Disney.

“ABC’s decision is not only an affront to women, it blatantly attacks the world’s largest faith," says Winter. "The ‘b-word’ is toxic and is used to degrade, abuse, harass, bully and humiliate women. And the ‘Christian’ element only adds insult to injury. Would ABC even consider another faith to denigrate?  Would they even consider a program title or a plot line based on ‘Bitches’ who were Muslim, Hindu, Jewish or Buddhist? I suspect not, and I certainly hope not.  So why the double standard?"

He goes on to say that the decision has "tarnished the Disney brand."

Previously, the PTC tried unsuccessfully to convince CBS to change the title of its sitcom "$#*! My Dad Says" and then waged a campaign against the MTV show "Skins" - flinging charges of "child pornography" at the controversial show.
