“The Borgias” Renewed for Second Season

Fresh on the heels of a well-liked British costume drama (“The Tudors”), Showtime has ordered a second season of “The Borgias,” a story of a 15th century papal family.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series broke through the gate with strong ratings, actually passing “The Tudors” rank during the show's popular (and highest rated) 4th season.

“It's a tribute to [creator Neil Jordan’s] incredible skills as an auteur and to the extraordinary cast led by Jeremy Irons that this show fits so seamlessly into our line-up of quality shows,” Showtime entertainment president David Nevins said in a statement.

The new episodes, ten in all, will be produced over the summer and air in 2012.
