Spike's Starcraft: Neil Patrick Harris to Host Video Game Awards

Game on.

Spike TV has tapped awards show mainstay Neil Patrick Harris to host this year’s Video Game Awards on Dec. 11, the cable network announced on Monday.

Harris has emceed the Tonys, Emmys and TV Land Awards in the past.

In speculating why the "How I Met Your Mother" star signed up to promote video games, befuddled New York Times’ headline writers summed it up this way: β€œWe Have No Idea.”

But VGA executive producer Casey Patterson said in a statement Monday that Harris was β€œa big gamer and a brilliant host.”

"Video games are taking over the world and Neil is perfect to lead the β€˜VGA’s’ in celebrating the best of the year and the future of gaming,” Patterson said, the Times reported.

The VGAs will feature 13 world premieres of games set for release next year and boast a performance by My Chemical Romance.

Pro skateboarder Tony Hawk, Danny Devito and other cast members from "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia," and comedian Dane Cook are also set to geek out on the show, The Associated Press reported.
