Gayle King: No Truth to Rumors of her Replacing Oprah

"That's a very good rumor"

Now that Oprah Winfrey has announced her impending retirement from her syndicated program in 2011, the search for the next queen of daytime TV is on.

But as far as Gayle King is concerned, you can cross her name off of the list as a possible Oprah replacement.

"That's a very good rumor," Gayle told Access Hollywood on Monday night at the "Fela" premiere in New York City, citing talk she might take over her best friend's TV slot. "That is not true. I haven't had one conversation with CBS about taking over that 4 PM slot."

In a recent AH Nation poll, when asked "Who should be the next queen of daytime TV?," Access Hollywood viewers picked Sarah Palin as their favorite, with 38 percent of the vote. In second, Ellen DeGeneres earned 32 percent, while Kate Gosselin finished third with 15 percent of the vote.

But Gayle shares the popular opinion of many others that no one can ever step in to replace Lady O.

"We have to think about a whole new model there. I don't know anybody that could take over that slot," she told Access.

And when it comes to who should be Oprah's final guest when she signs off in September 2011(AH Nation voted for Stedman with an overwhelming 61 percent of the vote), Gayle said it's fun to throw around ideas, but she wasn't giving up any information.

"That's a game we're all playing," she added. "Everybody has an idea."
