Stevie Wonder to Join Apollo Theatre Hall of Fame

Stevie Wonder wowed the world as a 12-year-old musical protege at the world famous Apollo Theater in 1962 and now, almost 50 years later, he's heading back to that institution as one of the most acclaimed musicians ever.

The singer of such classic songs as "Superstition" and "Isn't She Lovely?" will be inducted into the Harlem landmark's Hall of Fame in June of this year, reports NPR.

The announcement was made on February 2 and the ceremony is planned for June 13.

Wonder joins fellow music legends Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Michael Jackson in the Apollo's Hall of Fame.

The man once known as the "wonder child" grew up to become one of the towering figures of 20th Century American music. He has recorded more than 30 top ten singles in the U.S., and won 22 Grammy Awards, a record for a solo artist. In addition to being a member of both the Rock and Roll and Songwriters' Hall of Fame, he has sold over 100 million records worldwide and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "I Just Called to Say I Love You," which was featured in the 1984 film, The Woman in Red.
