In news Kim Kardashian might appreciate, singer Sinead O'Connor announced Tuesday she's splitting with her husband Barry Herridge after 16 days of marriage.
The singer, who initiated the split, blames the break-up on bad press, bad people and a wedding night quest for marijuana, according to a long and winding post on the singer's website.
"Within 3 hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed by the behaviour of certain people in my husband's life. And also by a bit of a wild ride I took us on looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for me wedding night as I don't drink," she wrote. "My husband was enormously wounded and very badly effected [sic] by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage."
The doomed matrimony began where so many do—in Las Vegas. She and Herridge, her fourth husband, tied the knot on O'Connor's 45th birthday, Dec. 8, in the back seat of a pink Cadillac.
The couple met online three months before the ceremony, and O'Connor wrote that "though it is painful to admit, we made a mistake rushing into getting married."
She ended the marriage, her post says, because Herridge "has been terribly unhappy," and is too nice of a person to be the one to initiate the split, and "too nice to trap."
The provocative icon, who famously tore a photo of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live in 1992, has suffered from bipolar disorder for most of her life. Though her erratic antics have toned down as she's faded from the spotlight, they haven't disappeared. Last month she stirred ire again with a tweet promising to incite a "bloodbath" if Pope Benedict visited Ireland. (She later clarified that the whole bloodbath thing was just a joke.)
O'Connor, a mother of four, has been married to producer John Reynolds, journalist Nicholas Sommerlad and collaborator Steve Cooney, whom she divorced just eight months ago.
