Katy Perry to Guest Star on “The Simpsons”

Katy Perry is leaving "Sesame Street" for Springfield.

The 24-year-old pop star, fresh off her turn on the children's show that sparked a controversy due to the dress she wore in a skit with Elmo, will make a holiday season appearance on "The Simpsons," reports Entertainment Weekly.

Her visit comes with a twist. Rather than appear as an animated version of herself, which is the norm for the show, she will instead appear in a live-action segment that will employ puppet versions of "The Simpsons" cast.

"In the wake of Elmo's terrible betrayal, the Simpsons puppets wish to announce they stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Katy Perry," joked executive producer Al Jean in a statement to the magazine.

The "Teenage Dream" singer will perform a duet of "The 39 Days of Christmas" with the show's cast and she'll play the girlfriend of surly bartender Moe Szyslak.

Perry's "Sesame Street" appearance, which is still available on YouTube, was pulled from the PBS show after criticism of her cleavage-baring attire. She made fun of the episode on the season premiere of "Saturday Night Live" when she appeared in a skit wearing a low-cut, tight-fitting Elmo t-shirt. Her "Simpsons" spot was shot prior to the "Sesame Street" dust up.

But Perry doesn't get the entire "Fight Before Christmas" episode of the Fox comedy to herself. Home make Martha Stewart also shows up, albeit in cartoon form.
