Aretha Franklin will r-e-s-p-e-c-t her doctor’s orders by canceling all shows and personal appearances through May, a rep for the Queen of Soul said Thursday.

"Her doctors have required her" to bow out of the appearances, publicist Tracey Jordan told The Associated Press.

Jordan provided scant details on the 68-year-old “Respect” singer’s condition, and did not say whether the decision to take a six month breather was related to her recent hospitalization in Detroit.

On Tuesday, Jordan told the AP the Grammy-winner was “resting comfortably at home” after a brief stay at Sinai Grace hospital for an undisclosed ailment.

But Franklin was “anxious to get back on the road to perform for her countless fans around the world,” her rep had said.

On the list of nixed Franklin appearances are: a Dec. 9 Christmas concert in Detroit and two shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City in February, the Detroit Free Press reported.

It’s looking the stars are conspiring to keep her from performing in New York.

In August, Franklin was forced to bail on a pair of free shows in Brooklyn after suffering broken ribs in a fall.

News of the canceled shows also come two months after the singer’s 52-year-old son, Eddie, was savagely beaten at a Detroit gas station.
