Kate Miller-Heidke Brings Operatic-Pop to SXSW

Fresh off a tour with Ben Folds, classically-trained Australian singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke brought her operatic-pop to SXSW Thursday night.

During the short set (SXSW is notorious for short-sets), Heidke sung about not only childhood regret but also, and with great humor, how to deal with an old lover who wronged you when the seek you out on Facebook. (Watch the YouTube video here) The latter mixed perfectly with a bit of colorful language placed perfectly to indicate her shock and willingness to "ignore" the past.

As of this writing, Heidke plays three more shows at SXSW -- two on Friday and one on Saturday before continuing her U.S. tour.  She returns to Austin on May 7 for a show at Stubbs and has vists shortly after at the House of Blues locations in Dallas, Houston and San Diego.  See full tour schedule here.

Heidke released her second album, Curiouser, in Oct. 2008 in Australia, more recently in the U.S.
