Charlize Theron Signs on For “Mad Max 4”; Mel Gibson To Follow?

Forget "Road" rage – Charlize Theron is getting "Mad."

Charlize will star in "Mad Max: Fury Road," the fourth installment in the Mel Gibson-famed '80s "Mad Max" franchise, according to Variety.

However, no word yet if Mel will return to reprise his title character role.

But Charlize does have at least one leading man in place – Tom Hardy ("Black Hawk Down," "RocknRolla") has also joined the cast.

Filming on the project is slated to begin in August 2010 in Australia.

George Miller – who directed all three previous "Mad Max" films – is back on board as writer/producer/director for the new chapter.

When asked if Mel would join the cast, Miller played coy.

"It could be Mel, it could be anyone," he told reporters.

Charlize will next be seen in the post-apocalyptic drama "The Road," alongside Viggo Mortensen, which hits theaters Thanksgiving weekend.
