"Saturday Night Live's" opening sketch this week predicted a dark future for America.

Apparently, it's not Obamacare or the government shutdown that could ultimately lead to America's demise, it's Miley Cyrus' risqué 2013 MTV VMA performance.

Backstage before her now infamous VMA foam finger work, Cyrus was greeted by a time-traveling "future Miley" (Vanessa Bayer) who warned her not to take the stage.

"If you walk out there like that," Bayer said. "They're going to put you in prison."

Present day Cyrus thought it was all a joke.

"I must be hallucinating," she said. "I must have smoked way too much…cigarettes."

That was just the beginning of both Cyrus' antics and pokes at the government following this week's shutdown.

During the show, Cyrus played Scarlett Johansson in a "50 Shades of Gray" casting call. In another skit, Cyrus played Hillary Clinton in an MTV show based on a potential presidential candidate's life (The same segment also featured a parody of Clinton as a version of "Breaking Bad's" Walter White.).

Cyrus even played Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann in a parody of her hit song, "We Can't Stop" that portrayed Speaker of the House John Boehner and other leading GOP members living large with a house party over the government shutdown.

Weekend Update with Seth Meyers and Cecily Strong also focused their attention on this week's government shutdown.

Meyers, who's leaving the show later this season to focus on his new gig as the host of "Late Night," made note of the last government shutdown that occurred in 1995.

"So basically, the government shuts down every time Arsenio (Hall) gets a TV show," Meyers said.

The duo then had some fun with the Republican party in a "Winners and Losers" segment.

Meyers focused much of his wrath on Boehner.

"I feel sorry for you buddy. It's exhausting watching you try maintain your dignity wrangling those tea party maniacs," Meyers said. "You're like 'Seinfeld' if there were 30 Kramers."

Meyers cited a Fox News poll this week that said the GOP's disapproval rate was 59 percent, but Strong called the Tea Party winners.

"It's always nice to see a vocal minority get their way," she said. "You're like a naked lunatic that gets his own subway car. Congrats on soiling your way to power."

Weekend Update also stretched past politics and into pop culture. Two memorable segments featured former NFL star and analyst Shannon Sharpe (Jay Pharoah), who "spelt out" some of his favorite picks for this week's pigskin action, while mother Pat Lynhart (Kate McKinnon) obsessed over her love of "Grand Theft Auto V" and told her family she had left her old life behind and was now a Latino war lord.

Cyrus, pulling double duty as host and musical guest, performed "Wrecking Ball" and an acoustic version of "We Can't Stop."
