WATCH: Obama Spars With Zach Galifianakis on “Between Two Ferns”

President Barack Obama appeared on Zach Galifianakis' mock interview web series "Between Two Ferns" for some awkward verbal sparring.

The "Funny or Die" show is famous for Galifianakis' intentional flubs in the presence of famous guests, who sit with the host between two potted fern plants on a set that resembles a low budget studio.

Obama, aware of what he was in for, lobbed the first insult and aimed it squarely below the belt.

"When I heard that people actually watch this show, I was pretty surprised," Obama said.

Galifianakis delivered his trademark mock-stupidity with questions about sending famous "ambassadors" like Dennis Rodman to "North Ikea." The conversation then turned towards the president's race.

"What is it like to be the last black president?" Galifianakis asked.

Obama fired back with, "What's it like for this to be the last time you ever talk to a president?"

The president went on to question Galifianakis about his "three inch vertical" and sparred over why neither of them brought their birth certificate to the interview. Obama also took a jab at Galifianakis' acting career when the host asked the president about running for a third term.

"If I ran a third time it would be sort of like doing a third Hangover movie," Obama said. "Didn't really work out very well did it?"

The president used the appearance to reach young people who have yet to sign up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. The White House is making one last ditch effort to push for more sign ups as the March 31 deadline approaches.

Galifianakis, on the other hand, used the interview to give the president advice on how to run the country.

"You know what I would do if I were president?" Galifianakis asked. " I would make same-sex divorce illegal, and then see how bad they want it."

"I think that's why you're not president," Obama said.

The interview, recorded two weeks ago, appeared on Funny or Die's website early Tuesday morning.
