WATCH: Miss Utah Fumbles Interview Question at Miss USA Pageant

Miss Utah may not have taken home the Miss USA crown on Sunday, but she still managed to become the social media talk of the town after she bungled the interview portion of the competition.

Panelist NeNe Leakes asked 21-year-old Marissa Powell a question about gender and income inequality and the beauty queen’s answer set the Twitterverse on fire.

“A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does it say about society?” Leakes asked.

A visibly-nervous Powell stammered her way through the interview and provided an incoherent answer.

“I think we can relate this back to education, and how we are continuing to try to strive…to… figure out how to create jobs right now. That is the biggest problem right now,” Powell said.

She paused upon realizing her mistake and followed up with the suggestion that men need to “create education better.”

Miss Connecticut Erin Brady ended up with the crown after Sunday's glamour-filled pageant at the Planet Hollywood hotel-casino in Las Vegas.

The gaffe is reminiscent of the response that Miss South Carolina, Caitlin Upton, provided in the 2007 Miss Teen USA pageant. Her explanation that a fifth of Americans are unable to locate the U.S. on a map because "some people out there in our nation don't have maps" brought her international notoriety.
