Chris Martin Hitchhikes to the Super Bowl, Sings Carpool Karaoke and a David Bowie Song With James Corden

Coldplay singer performs "A Sky Full of Stars," "Adventure of a Lifetime," "Viva La Vida," "Paradise" and more with the "Late Late Show" host.

As James Corden was driving down the highway and singing Coldplay's "A Sky Full of Stars" Tuesday, the "Late Late Show" host happened upon Chris Martin, who was trying to hitch a ride to the Super Bowl. The singer begged Corden for a ride, saying, "Please, man. I'm desperate."

After Corden came to terms with the fact that he would no longer be alone on his day off he and Martin set off for San Francisco, Calif. They turned on the radio, and wouldn't you know it, Coldplay's "Adventure of a Lifetime" happened to be playing. "You know what's odd about the Super Bowl, is that we--where we're from--we call it American football, whereas here, it's just football," Corden told his fellow British ex-pat. "Do you know the rules of American football?"

"Yeah. You have nine teams and two balls. Wait! No! So, the pitcher, he has to tee off and then it lands wherever it might land, and then it's 15-Love," Martin said. And if the ball lands in the basket? "Then it's nine points for the other team, I think. At the end of it, they hand out bowls," he told his driver. "Some of them are really super. Hopefully they'll give us one after this thing."

"Yellow" was next on Corden's playlist.

Afterward, Martin did a killer impression of Mick Jagger.

Because they were on a road trip, Corden and Martin needed to pull over at a rest stop and pick up some snacks and other items, like San Francisco 49ers beanies. Once they were back on the highway, they sang "Hymn for the Weekend" in unison. Martin later revealed which musicians he looks up to, citing Bruce Springsteen, U2 and Bruno Mars as some of his biggest inspirations. Corden agreed that Mars is an "incredible" performer, saying, "No one will ever come close to doing what he did at that Super Bowl Halftime Show--very difficult for anyone to match that."

When they finished singing "Viva La Vida," Corden asked Martin to jam on the keyboard he had stowed in the backseat. The rocker obliged before performing his own rendition of David Bowie's "Heroes." Martin kept the keyboard in his lap and sang Coldplay's "Us Against the World" a little later on.

After stopping at a lemonade stand and getting a surprise sugar rush, the two continued on their journey and sang "Paradise." The boost of energy didn't last long, so Corden suggested they stop for the night and stay at the Palace Inn Motel. After getting settled in their room, Corden crawled into bed with Martin--after kicking him out of the other bed. (He was the little spoon to Martin's big spoon, FYI.) In Corden's mind, that was the perfect time to sing "Fix You."

Their road trip hit a speed bump at the end--but we won't spoil it for you.

"The Late Late Show" airs weeknights at 12:35 a.m. on CBS.
