Mark Zuckerberg has friended the movie about his little startup, Facebook, in a big way - by taking his staff to see it.
The boyish billionaire initially said he didn't want to see "The Social Network," the hit movie about the creation of Facebook, but he's come around, according to Us magazine.
The face of Facebook took all of his staffers to go see the movie last Friday, and then drank apple martinis afterwards like Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg's characters do in their first meeting, the mag reported.
"To celebrate a period of intense activity at Facebook, we decided to go to the movies," a Facebook rep told the magazine. "We thought this particular movie might be amusing."
In an interview in July, Diane Sawyer asked Zuckerberg if he was going to see the movie, and he wasn't as enthusiastic back then. However, Zuckerberg has spent the past couple of weeks generating positive headlines, like appearing on Oprah, The Simpsons and donating $100 million to the Newark educational system.
Director David Fincher will probably be glad to learn the subject of his movie actually bought a ticket. He recently told reuters he never intended to demonize Zuckerberg.
"I hope he seems human," Ficher said. "I hope he seems like a real person with insecurities and aspirations and he is fiercely protective of his creation as he should be, as I think that it ultimately gives his stay on this planet a reason.
In a recent interview with CNN after the release of the movie, Zuckerberg was still dismissive.
"We build products that 500 million people see," Zuckerberg said. "If 5 million people see a movie, it doesn't really matter that much."
