Tidbits: Gibson's ready to put scandals behind him

Three and a half years after an arrest for driving under the influence turned into a PR nightmare, and almost a year after his decades-long marriage dissolved amid yet another scandal, Mel Gibson is ready to put the dishonors behind him return to the business of acting.

“It’s more lucrative. It’s fun. It’s my first love,” Gibson told Hello! magazine of his decision to get back in front of the cameras. “I took time away — I felt that I was stale — and I came back and I feel like some kind of maturation happened.”

As for one of those earlier, less mature events that happened, the 54-year-old is over it, even if the public isn’t.

“It’s said that I went into a rant,” Gibson recalled of his infamous anti-Semitic outburst in 2006, “but I think it went on for about five words. I was drunk. It just turned into a big thing. I apologized profusely — not once but three times. So what’s the problem? It’s four years ago. Do I need to apologize again?”

Taylor Momsen refuses to be a role model
Those who don’t approve of Taylor Momsen’s blunt words or barely there grunge couture can rest assured the “Gossip Girl” star just doesn’t care. The fact is, according to 16-year-old Momsen, role model isn’t part of her job description.

“To be honest, I don’t f---ing care,” Momsen told the Times of London. “I didn’t get into this to be a role model. So I’m sorry if I’m influencing your kids in a way that you don’t like, but I can’t be responsible for their actions. I don’t care.”

Besides, as the teen queen sees it, it’s not like the world is providing her with a sterling example of proper behavior.

“It’s insane,” Momsen said of her life in the spotlight. “I literally can’t go out without being interrupted. It’s wild.” And it’s no better in the virtual world, as she added, “Online, there’s a thousand people who are just so mean. There are so many negative comments about just the pettiest things that you can’t even read it.”

Surgeon insists Montag never came close to death
The dramatic near-death story Heidi Montag shared after undergoing 10 plastic surgery procedures in one day doesn’t reflect reality according to her surgeon, Dr. Frank Ryan.

Although Montag stated she suffered breathing difficulties and “almost died” after her extreme makeover, Ryan denied the claim when he spoke to Radar Online.

“It’s very common to say in the recovery room or post-operatively for people to say, ‘I can’t breathe — I can’t breath. I feel like an elephant is on my chest. Help. Help.’ ” But Ryan believes the truth of the matter is that “they are breathing fine. They are just not aware of it.”

The doctor has since contacted Montag to ensure she understands that she was never really in mortal danger.

“As Heidi and I talked about it afterwards, I said, ‘Heidi you didn’t almost die. Let’s rephrase this. OK? ’” Ryan explained.

Dish on the fly
When Grammy-nominated rapper Kanye West and model girlfriend Amber Rose took to the streets in their fluffiest full-length furs last week, they had to know a PETA pounce was just around the corner. “Kanye can't help making himself look like an idiot, whether at an awards show or a fashion show,” said Dan Matthews, vice president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. “He and his girlfriend look like pathetic creatures from a shabby roadside zoo.” … Music’s most notorious self-declared boozehound, Keith Richards, recently said goodbye to the bottle. A report in The Sun reveals the 66-year-old Rolling Stones rocker finally decided to listen to doctors and common sense after watching bandmate Ronnie Wood suffer his own downward spiral. “(Keith) has always quite enjoyed the fact that he seemed to be able to carry on drinking as much as he liked with no real negative impact on his health,” a source revealed. "But he has watched Ronnie fall well and truly off the wagon last year and he doesn't like what he sees.” … The latest issue of OK! magazine features a trim Kourtney Kardashian on the cover and promises a “body after baby exclusive,” but according to the new mom, it’s all a lie. “They doctored and Photoshopped my body to make it look like I have already lost all the weight, which I have not,” the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” sibling explained to Women’s Wear Daily. As for the quotes from Kardashian and details of her “hunger-free diet” inside OK, the reality star insisted she never spoke to the magazine for the story.
