Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds to Divorce: Rep

Hollywood couple married in 2008

One of Hollywood's most glamorous young couples is headed for the rocks.

Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson are getting a divorce, their representative told entertainment news outlets. The couple, who married in September, 2008 in a wilderness retreat in Reynolds' native British Columbia, are splitting amicably, the rep said.

"After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage," read a statement from the couple. " We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated."

Reynolds, the 34-year-old star of "The Proposal" and "Green Lantern," is one of Hollywood's hottest actors and was named this year's Sexiest Man Alive by People mag.

But he had seemingly found his match in Johansson, 26, who stars in "Iron Man II" and is every bit as big a star. Their busy schedules may have been their undoing.

"The big problem with their relationship is the distance," a source told Us Weekly. "They spent a lot of time apart when they are working...She's been unhappy for a while."

Amid their frequent pledges of devotion, there were other comments that mighht have been prophetic.

"I don't profess to know anything about marriage that anybody else doesn't know, or how to make it right," Johansson told Glamour last year.

And Reynolds said in the October issue of GQ that things had "changed" since they got married. "I'm a little more guarded, I think. I'm a little bit more wary of having my relationship turning into a soap opera."

Johansson has already begun looking for a new apartment in New York City and is now in Jamaica with girlfriends, according to People.
