Chris Brown: I Didn't Mean to Insult Gay Community

The singer had shouted gay slurs at a papparazzo

After coming under fire for using the word "gay" as an insult, Chris Brown defended himself on Twitter.

The hip hop star was caught using the offensive language while an L.A. police officer was giving him a parking ticket on Tuesday. Gay rights group The Human Rights Campaign told TMZ the language was "unacceptable."

"I have total respect for Gay community and my intention was not to insult anyone in it #REALS__T," Brown tweeted on Wednesday, appearing to refer to the incident.

A police officer was getting ready to give the 22-year-old performer a ticket when Brown spotted the paparazzo and blamed him for alerting the authorities about his illegal parking. The TMZ video shows that the officer eventually decided not to write the ticket.

"Y'all n--gas is weak," Brown said to the camera. "Did you all call them to try and film me? Y'all n--gas is gay."

A Human Rights Campaign representative scolded the singer. "Chris Brown should know better…He irresponsibly neglected to recognize the impact of his words and the unacceptable message that is sends to couple the word gay with negative actions," the rep told TMZ.

The "I Can Transform Ya" singer has been criticized for using a gay slur before. The Hollywood Reporter points out that Brown called ex-B2K member Raz B a "homo" and a "d--k in da booty ass lil boy" in a Twitter fight.
