Singer Lily Allen Hospitalized

She is being treated for septicemia

Just days after miscarrying, singer Lily Allen was hospitalized Friday night with a blood condition that could possibly prove fatal.

The Daily Mail of London reports that after losing the child she was expecting with boyfriend Sam Cooper, the British singer was recovering at her home in Gloucestershire when she was rushed to the hospital. She was diagnosed with septicemia, a bacterial infection that poisons the bloodstream.

Hours before she was hospitalized, Allen had thanked her fans on Twitter for their support, saying, “Thank you for all your kind messages.”

Sadly, this isn’t Allen’s first miscarriage. The pop darling suffered another loss in 2008 when she was dating Chemical Brothers DJ Ed Simons.

According to The Daily Mail, there are approximately 300,000 reported cases of septicemia annually, with up to 15,000 becoming fatal.

“Everyone is extremely concerned,” said her spokesperson on Saturday, though friends and family remain optimistic.  “She is responding well to treatment and her condition continues to improve.”
